Welcome Home.
Summer time has arrived and, if you’re anything like us, that means cleaning all the winter grime off your porch and breaking out the fun outside décor to create a happy, summertime hang out place!
It really doesn’t take much to give your home a little pop and add some curb appeal! So where to begin? Your front door is a focal point of your home, so why not start there with a super cute, unique Welcome Sign?!
To create these cuties, I rounded up these supplies:
Pre-cut Wooden Circle {comes in a variety of sizes - $13}
chalk paint and stain
Painters tape {or, if you’re more talented than me and can paint a totally straight line, you can skip this one}
Cute ribbon {Hobby Lobby}
Greenery {Hobby Lobby}
Vinyl for the cricut **Pro tip - get your cricut vinyl on Amazon. You get about 3 times the amount for the same price as what you find at Hobby Lobby. While you don’t get the advantage of viewing the color in person before making your purchase, Amazon has free returns and lots of good reviews with pictures! So nothing to lose!
Then, I got to work! I started by taping off where I wanted stain only. I decided to start with the stain vs. the paint because the stain was light enough that, if it bled through my tape somehow, the bright white paint would cover the blemish! I used a level to make sure my line was straight and measured all the sections to make sure they were the size I had in mind.
To apply the stain, I like to use THESE SPONGES. I feel these give you more control over the amount of stain you are applying and where it’s going compared to a brush. I applied one coat, let it dry completely and then went back through with a second coat.
Once the stain was dry, I moved the tape down to line up with the top of my stain and painted those sections white! To eliminate brush strokes, I used a small roller to apply the paint.
While that’s drying, it’s time to break out the cricut! I am not nearly artistic enough to hand paint this wording, so I had to rely on this handy tool! To make it really pop on the white paint, I went with a classic black.
After the wording was on, I applied one coat of THIS WATERBASED POLYCRYLIC FINISH to protect the paint, stain and letters and keep it looking beautiful!
Last step was to attach the ribbon for the “hook”, the bow, and greenery and voila! Your door has a face lift!!
If you don’t want to go through the steps of creating one of these yourself, give me a call or shoot me a message and I’d love to make one for you!! Whether you want a seasonal or holiday theme or something that can be used year round, I can help bring it to life. The options for design are truly endless!
Xoxo, Shelbi.
