A Sneak Peak into OUR Happy Place
Blake and I purchased the lot for our home back in November of 2019. We knew we weren’t ready to get started building yet, but we found the perfect lot for us so we snagged it up! Then, the planning began!
Shortly after purchasing we heard how long of a process building can truly be.. From finding or creating plans to choosing a contractor {and getting on their schedule} and actually building, it can take a few years! So we didn’t waste much time.
In July of 2020, we began working with Eric Harvey at Dream Home Design to create custom floor plans that would work for our family for.. well.. Forever! Tough task when you don’t have a crystal ball of now life will turn out.. But we started by looking online for some ideas and found one that was on the right track. So, we took that to Eric and he got to work creating exactly what we wanted! A few months of back and forth and we had a home! {on paper..}
When our plans were getting close to being finalized, we reached out to a couple contractors to get bids and ultimately chose J&N {Jared Allensworth and Nick Powell}. Initially we thought the project would break ground in Spring of 2022 {spoiler alert: We moved into the house spring of 2022}, but a crazy housing market, paired with God surprising us with baby #3 on the way pushed things up a bit.
We ended up selling our home at the time in August of 2021 and moving in with Blake’s mom {yes… she let her pregnant kids, our 2 toddlers and big hairy dog take over her home for about 9 months. She’s nuts. & we’re forever grateful}. We just couldn’t pass up an easy sale and knew it’d be a great way to save some extra $ to start as soon as Jared could get us in! We had our fingers crossed for March 2022. We met him out at our lot one afternoon to go over the plans and talk through how things would sit, some suggested changes he had, etc. Through conversation, we’d mentioned we were with family close by and eager to start ASAP. When Jared realized we’d already sold our house, he pulled some sort of magic to bump our project up to start THREE WEEKS LATER and we broke ground on October 19, 2021. Needless to say.. We were both extremely excited and nervous to actually get this thing kicked off!
Once it got started, it never slowed down! Jared and his team had it dug out in a couple days and framed and under roof by Thanksgiving! We wanted to beat the bad weather so the winter could be focused on the indoors and they did it! It’s truly amazing seeing your dreams come to life right before your eyes!
The planning, endless research and overall wild ride of building a home was insane, but worth every second! We officially moved in April 19th, with a few outdoor items left to wrap up.
Now that we’re in and settled, we’re onto decorating, landscaping, and {eventually} finishing the basement! But we’ve come a long way since breaking ground in October of 2021, so I wanted to share pictures of the process. Stick with me as we make this home even more beautiful one space at a time! I’ll do an individual post for each space as it’s decorated!
